What's the Story Behind God's Little Thunderstorm?

Years ago my mom and I were visiting family out-of-state. While we were there, my aunt’s neighbor, who is an energy reader and healer, invited us to act as clients for her energy readers in training. *Quick disclaimer* I know this sounds very new age, and not very Biblical, but I was 20 at the time, not really walking with the Lord, and intrigued in the powers and energies in this world. I do believe the Lord still spoke to me through this experience, though.

Most of what the readers shared about me and my energy were pretty true, but was nothing profound. Then, one woman said that God told her I’m his little thunderstorm. My mom and I laughed, only because we knew how true it was. I am feisty, rumbling to get my way, maybe a bit intimidating and scary at times, and I sure can strike like lightening.Ever since then, it has kind of been a running joke in my family that I am God’s Little Thunderstorm. It even became a thing at work that when I had something to say that was going to shake things up that God’s Little Thunderstorm was rolling through.

It has mainly been a thing to joke and laugh about, but over recent months the Lord has really been speaking to me about what ministry as His little thunderstorm could look like for me.

The first sign of a thunderstorm is typically dark clouds and the low rumbling of thunder. We know that thunder is actually caused by lightning, so in a way, it acts as an audible warning of the storm that is coming and the power that lurks within those clouds. Lightning is often seen as dangerous and destructive - and it is - yet it can also be nature’s way to spark regeneration. One single lightning strike can ignite a flame that burns an entire forest. While devastating, we know that this can be necessary to clear the old, dried up brush, and allow room for new growth. According to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, thunder and lightning are crucial to maintain the earth-atmosphere electrical balance and making ozone-producing chemicals. Finally, the rain comes, bringing refreshment and regrowth on the earth.

Let’s get a little poetic with this now…

The Bible often speaks of thunder as God’s voice or His majestic power. His Word provides guidance and heeds warning about the storms we will encounter in life. Sometimes the storms of this life, and even conviction through God's Word, can strike like lightning and spark a fire. We get caught in the flames, but those flames can be necessary to refine and allow room for regrowth. Thankfully, we have the rain of God’s grace and truth to refresh our souls and supply nourishment for our growth.

My hope is to help cultivate growth through God’s Word and truth as you walk through your own storms in life. We will heed warnings together, walk through the fires of refinement together, and grow in our relationships with Christ together.
